It is Australia’s national day, and is often celebrated amongst family and friends with lunch, a BBQ or a day at the beach, or whatever else people may fancy.

New Year’s Eve

NYE (New Year’s Eve) in Sydney is a massive celebration each and every year. The Harbour bridge is decorated and lit up, along with the Sydney Opera House, and people come from all over to watch the impressive fireworks display. The video below is just a taste of just how amazing the fireworks display is each year in Sydney.

Boxing Day

boxing day australiaBoxing Day is the day after Christmas Day, the 26th of December, and is a public holiday in Australia. The major post Christmas sales begin on this day, mainly in the city stores, and starting around 5 or 6 am. The Boxing Day cricket test match is also held on this day at the MCG and it is also the first day of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

ANZAC Day

anzac day australiaANZAC stands for the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. This day commemorates the landing at Gallipoli in 1915. However, that is just the beginning. It has become a day of remembrance for all Australians who have served this country in different wars, international conflicts and peacekeeping missions. By commemorating the ‘spirit of Anzac’, of these men and women who died for Australia and its people, Australians recognise and acknowledge who we are as a people, and as a nation.
