Australian Rules Football
Australian Rules Football (AFL) also called « Footy » is a type of football which originated in Melbourne. Despite being named ‘football’, it bears no resemblance to European or American football. The Players ofin two teams aim to kick the ball between the goals at both ends of the field. It is quite a complicated game which can be best explained visually.
Rugby League
Rugby League is one of the most popular Australian sports, especially in New South Wales and Queensland.This winter sport is highlit by the annual State of Origin series, which consists in three games between the two state teams. Each Rugby League team is composed of 13 players and this sport is considered to be more violent than Rugby Union.
There are many differences between Rugby League and Rugby Union in the game’s rules and points system.
Rugby Union
The Australian Rugby Union team, the Wallabies, have won the Rugby World Cup twice, in 1991 and again in 1999. They are considered to be one of the best teams in the world. There are 15 player in each team. The main differences with Rugby League are that after most tackles there is a ruck and that players are often forming malls to move forward.
