What were you doing in your homecountry before you came to Australia ?
I was working in the TV industry, back from a year of travels in south east Asia and Australia
Why Australia ?
I’d backpacked 8 months in Australia and loved it… When I was back home I kept receiving emails from friends who were living there bout life, surf trips, weekends away, music festivals etc. and 1 day got enough – I wanted to be sending those emails, not receiving hem!

What type of visa do you have and why ?
I came back on a tourist visa since I’d used my WHV when backpacking, then got an ‘Intern Visa’ when hired as an Intern, and 3 months later a sponsorship (457)
What sort of work did you do in Australia ? In which fields?
I still work in the TV/media industry in Australia (same as I was doing back home), in Marketing – I’m Marketing Supervisor for the Disney Channels
Tell us about your travels
I travelled 8 months and did the east coast, Tasmania, New Zealand, Western Australia, red centre and Northern territory.
What was the budget for your trip ?
I don’t really remember as it’s been almost 4 years now… I’d say 6,000 euros maybe (including 3 months in Thailand, Cambodia, china and Bali)
What is the most beautiful place in Australia to you?
Western Australia is just amazing… The endless turquoise waters, red cliffs of Karijini, the reef, the stars at night, it’s just unreal.
What was your favourite moment/event in Australia ?
I’ve had endless moments of fun here… I can think of moments from my road trip in WA 4 years ago and laugh on my own! New Year’s Eve 2 years ago was magical too, with a perfect finish of sunrise on the cliffs overlooking Tama, and pretty much every camping weekend away has its great moments.
What do you think about Australians and life in Australia?
‘Work hard, play hard’ – work is more focused, more intense (less distractions ‘a la française’), but the work/personal life balance is more important here. In my company for example, we finish at 3pm Fridays in summer to enjoy the day… Life in general is much more relaxed than life in Paris and living in Bondi gives a sense of holiday to an everyday activity
If you were to give a piece of advice to someone coming to Australia, what would it be?
Holiday: don’t lock things too much in advance, you’ll meet people along your way and will want to be flexible – nothing worse than losing your travel buddies just because you had a flight pre booked 2 months in advance and couldn’t change it!
Work: you gotta be here to apply for jobs and be available.
And a second piece of advice ?
What do you wish you knew before getting on the plane to Australia?
I would’ve stashed foie gras in my suitcase!
Did your Australian experience change you ? How?
I think I’m more open, more prompt to chat to random people I meet wherever. I’m also way more outdoorsy now!
