The Startup&Angels team was really excited to host the first edition of Startup&Angels in Singapore! The evening was lovely thanks to our partners. We were lucky to have Maltem Consulting Group as our sponsor for this edition, which helped us cover the food and drinks. Thanks to them, we enjoyed delicious samosas and egg tarts!
Last 25th May, the team was in Singapore and we met incredible people and local entrepreneurs at Impact Hub – The Impact Hub Singapore is a co-working community comprising over 670 members and 270 companies from ideation stage startups to billion-dollar ‘Unicorn’ ventures. Impact Hub Singapore is Singapore’s largest co-working community of techies, entrepreneurs and creatives. It has two locations in Singapore.
Members get access to funding, capacity building, community connections, and international networks – making Impact Hub Singapore a co-working space that grows entrepreneurs not just houses them. Through its multi-stakeholder ecosystem consisting of corporates, the government and the startup community, Impact Hub Singapore has established itself as the go-to place for entrepreneurs and their collaborators who seek a platform for innovation, partnerships and solutions. The Hub kindly hosted the event and gave the opportunity to 5 speakers to share their stories:
Justin is a successful entrepreneur with 20+ years experience in establishing #1 Tech businesses. He co-founded the #1 real estate portal in Myanmar, ShweProperty.com and the #1 job portal in Myanmar also, JobNet.com.mm. We were able to catch him on Skype so he could speak live from Myanmar to tell us more about his story.
- Then, we welcomed on stage Jackie Tan, Co-founder and CEO of fundMyLife. FundMyLife is a platform that connects users to the right financial advisers based on their financial planning questions. fundMyLife was inspired by his family’s close encounter with tragedy, and the subsequent realization of the importance of financial planning and literacy.
- Next to pitch was Alexia Sichère, successful entrepreneur and founder of Try&Review. Try and Review offers brands from the beauty, food, health & baby industry to organise large-scale product testing campaigns. Consumers get the chance to test products for free, to give their opinion on products as well as consult reviews from other testers.
- Then, Julien Crochet gave us an inspiring speech about ABTasty, an AB Testing solution and one of the most innovative and fastest growing companies in the web industry in Europe, with six offices in New York, Paris, Madrid, Sydney, London and Cologne and soon Singapore. Special congrats for securing a 17m fund raising!
- Last but not least, Mayur Singh, founder of Coopita, gave us a smart presentation of their activity. With a mission to reestablish the pride associated with products “Made in Asia”, Coopita provides a platform for makers of handmade products across Asia to exhibit and sell their products globally. It is focused on developing the capabilities of artisans and craftsmen (‘makers’) working towards preserving the traditional crafts of Asia. With a vision to change the perception of ‘Made in Asia’, Coopita works actively with makers communities across Asia and showcase their hands, skills and products to a global audience.
Since the beginning of operations in June 2016, Coopita’s community of makers has grown to include over 100 maker organisations working with more than 7,000 artisans from 8 countries across Asia.
Mayur concluded the pitching part and everyone then enjoyed a relaxed networking moment while enjoying delicious food from KG Catering and drinks.
